In Rochester, the state of MN is making a historic 20-year $585M infrastructure investment in the core downtown district surrounding the Mayo Clinic campus. Formally launched as Destination Medical Center (DMC) in 2015, the DMC master plan includes a 16-block innovation District called Discovery Square. In Phoenix, AZ Discovery Oasis is an expansive, 120-acre development adjacent to Mayo Clinic, envisioned as an innovation hub to collaboratively advance groundbreaking solutions to humanity’s most complex medical challenges. The foundation of these efforts is the enormous amount of intellectual property coming out of Mayo Clinic. In this presentation, we discuss the data-driven approach to build the Discovery Square and Discovery Oasis ecosystems and the need for effective inter-agency collaborations. We will showcase Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics as a model for leveraging innovation infrastructure as a means to accelerate speed to bedside for cellular therapies.
Session Objectives:
• Understand how public entities, private NGO’s, and industry can join forces to build a new supportive innovation ecosystem.
• Understand how proximity to an academic medical center can maximize the pace of innovation and speed to market for cell therapies
