3D bioreactor technology for efficient large-scale manufacturing of allogenic cell therapies

Presenter
Karin Abitorabi, MSc., Head of Process Development and Innovation, Minaris Regenerative Medicine, Germany

Allogeneic therapies are seen as key to unlock the full potential of regenerative medicine for large patient populations. However, medical treatments often require large numbers of living human cells, therefore efficient manufacturing processes are needed. Conventional 2D culture of adherent cells in T-flasks or cell stacks is inefficient, cost and labor intensive, and bears the risks of limited proliferation and loss of desired cell properties. At Minaris Regenerative Medicine, our team of experts are developing efficient large-scale cell production processes using 3D bioreactors. The presentation will share data on adherent cells (MSCs) in 3D bioreactor culture and demonstrate that 3D bioreactors provide simple scale-up, high cell numbers and low contamination risk. This approach results in labor and cost savings, compared to the manual traditional expansion systems.
