Hematopoietic Cell Therapy: A Standardized Workflow for Culture and Functional Assessment

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) have a demonstrated efficacy and established history of clinical use as treatments for both malignant and non-malignant diseases. Novel technologies, such as gene editing and ex vivo expansion, extend and further underscore the potential of HSPCs to serve as curative cell therapies for a variety of diseases. The translation of new HSPC therapies from the the lab to the clinic requires tools and reagents that enable the standardization of manufacturing workflows and functional validation of HSPC products. In this talk we will introduce you to STEMCELL Technologies’ StemSpan™ product line for culturing and expanding HSPCs, including the first animal origin-free culture medium on the market. In addition, we will discuss how STEMCELL can support the development and implementation of the CFU assay as a potency test for HSPC products and introduce the STEMvision™ instrument for standardized, automated imaging and counting of hematopoietic colonies.
