Industry 4.0 refers to the industrial shift towards increased interconnectivity, smart automation, and AI. The adoption of technologies that enable the above capabilities will play a key role in supporting patient access to life-saving ATMPs (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products). There are significant disparities that exist today between patient demand and the availability of ATMPs due to the biotech talent shortage, limited manufacturing capacity, and high process failure rates. However, the industry has been slow to adopt these technologies due to difficulties in changing existing processes and a reliance on “tried and true” technologies. This panel will explore the opportunities provided by adoption of industry 4.0 principles as they apply to ATMP development, manufacturing, and patient delivery.
