Sweden's system is based on the right of academics to control and own their IPs (for their research, ideas, and inventions), aka “professors' privilege”. While Sweden is the acknowledged European leader with a large number of deposited patents, some experts began to question the professors' privilege strategy and eventual repercussions for the for-profit exploit.

Session Objectives

  1. What is the Professor’s privilege and how it works
  2. What are the differences in EU Countríes
  3. Pros and cons of such an academic control
  4. Professor privilege for biotech researchers (outside academia)
  5. Patent and prof privilege connections/restrictions
