Dr (Lt Col) Pawan Kumar Gupta, is the President – Medical & Regulatory Affairs, Stempeutics Research, Bangalore since October 2008, which is the first stem cell company in India focusing in basic R&D and clinical development of major unmet medical needs using allogeneic bone marrow derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells.
Dr Pawan is a Hematologist and has worked in Armed Forces of India for 24 years before joining Stempeutics. He also has worked in Stem Cells Institute, University of Minnesota and trained in the field of stem cells. He was the former Dean of Manipal Institute of Regenerative Medicine, Bangalore. Under his guidance and leadership the product stempeucel® (Adult Human Bone-Marrow Derived, Cultured, Pooled, Allogeneic Mesenchymal Stromal Cells) has progressed from pre-clinical to clinical trials stages and has been granted manufacturing and marketing approval for two indications in India – Critical limb ischemia and Osteoarthritis of knee.
He has 95+ publications both in International and National indexed journal to his credit. He is a member of National Apex Committee – Stem Cell Research and Therapy (NAC-SCRT), the apex committee of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, which is an advisory body to promote and facilitate ethical stem cell research in the country. He is also the Regional VP-Elect, Asia (June 2023-2025) of ISCT.
