Massimiliano Gnecchi MD, PhD, FESC Professor University of Pavia & Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Pavia Italy

Prof. Gnecchi is Associate Professor of Cardiology at the University of Pavia, in Italy. He teaches at the Schools of Medicine and Biotechnology and is also a faculty member of the PhD program in Translational Medicine and of the Fellowship Programs in Cardiology. Prof. Gnecchi is also attending Cardiologist and Director of the Molecular and Translational Cardiology Unit at the IRCCS San Matteo Hospital in Pavia, Italy. His research interests include stem cell paracrine mechanisms and disease modelling-drug screening using iPSC technology. Prof. Gnecchi was the first one to demonstrate, in 2005, that stem cells repair ischemic hearts mainly through paracrine actions mediated by their secretome. His original discovery, published in Nature Medicine and cited more than 2.000 times, paved the way for a new field of research based on the use of stem cell-derived secretome and microvesicles for tissue repair. In addition, Prof. Gnecchi leads a broad iPSC-based program aiming to improve precision medicine strategies and drug discovery in the cardiovascular field.
Prof. Gnecchi is the Chair of the Cardiovascular Subcommittee, the current regional Vice President Europe and member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Cell Therapy
