Professor Francesco Dazzi obtained his MD and PhD in Italy before moving his career as a clinical academic at Imperial College London and later at King’s College London. He made a critical impact on the use of immunotherapy in haemopoietic stem cell transplantation by developing donor lymphocyte infusion programmes and the use of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) for graft-versus-host disease. His studies on the biology of MSC have unveiled new mechanisms of action. He is currently Executive Medical Director of Cell Therapy at AstraZeneca where he leads immune cell based projects for the treatment of non-malignant conditions
