"Daniela Bellomo is passionate about creating value from science-driven business opportunities. She studied and worked in molecular biology in Italy, the UK, and Australia before moving to the innovation sector. With a combined scientific and managerial background, she has performed at the top level of important organizations, serving as an executive, board director, advisor, and founder and managing director. Her focus has been to identify, protect, transfer, and fund early-stage medical, diagnostic, and digital health projects.
Currently, as the Director of Business Development and Technology Transfer at San Raffaele Hospital, part of the San Donato Group, she is proud to be associated with Italy's best-performing University Research Hospital, according to the Ministry of Health’s ranking. The hospital boasts over 1500 researchers working on basic and translational projects in areas such as gene and cell therapy, oncology, immunology, hematology, neurology, cardiology, and digital health.
Daniela has expanded and now leads a team of 16 IP, business, and legal professionals. The team’s key responsibilities include managing the San Raffaele portfolio of over 800 patents and patent applications, negotiating and closing numerous research-to-industry collaborations and license deals with international companies (collective bio-dollar value in the hundreds of millions of Euros), and managing the resulting alliances.
In addition, Daniela negotiates and closes investment agreements with venture capital firms, creates start-up companies, and manages the resulting equity positions for Ospedale San Raffaele. This includes representing the hospital on the Board of Directors during the listing of Genenta at Nasdaq and participating in shareholders' assemblies. As of 2023, five startups managed by Daniela have collectively raised over 100 million Euros, with the OSR equity generated currently around 20 million Euros.
Daniela initiated and now supervises similar activities at Policlinico San Donato and Ospedale Galeazzi.
