Professor Johan Hyllner is currently executive director Cell Therapy BioPharmaceuticals R&D at AstraZeneca. He is a world leading expert in cell therapy and enabling technologies with expertise ranging from basic research to commercialization of these advanced cell-based products including, ecosystem building and innovation execution.
Prior to joining AstraZeneca in January 2019, Johan was a C-level executive in five start-up companies in the cell therapy area and built these into successful International businesses during the last twenty years. Most recently he held the position as CSO of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult Ltd in London. In addition, Johan was part of building Cellartis, Cellectis, SQC Lab and Vitrolife into thriving entities. Hyllner is currently a board member of Gothenburg University and an SAB member at the Lund Stem Cell Center (Sweden) and NecstGen (National ATMP Manufacturing Centre, The Netherlands).
Johan is also Professor in Engineering Biology at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Linköping University in Sweden and has published more than 60 peer reviewed, full-length articles and a dozen books/chapters.
