Pre-Conference Session: Customer Case Study - How to Use a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) Supported by an Oracle EBS Environment to Facilitate M&A Activity

    Phase I:

Our client, a multi-national gaming industry leader, is/was divesting the digital portion of their business.  The client’s management team took the approach of creating a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) to ready this line of business for sale. Syntax consultants assisted our client with below activities:

    • -36 months of audited financials specifically related to the divested business
    • -B

Once the sale was finalized, our client was required to create a stand-alone ERP for the divested business, Oracle EBS. This stand-alone ERP would be becoming the operating ERP for the divested business for the duration of the TSA (transitional services agreement) while the acquiring company planned and executed a migration to their respective ERP, SAP.  Syntax consultants assisted our client with the below activities:

    • -Define cloning strategy to create the new stand-alone environment

    • -Use the SPAC to purge balances, not related to the divested business, from the Operating ledgers

    • -Develop and execute scripts to identify and carve out sub-ledger transactions in Receivables, Payables and Fixed Assets

    • -Develop and execute scripts to identify and remediate all manual, automated, and reversing entries

    • -Identify and manage all co-mingled transactions that could not be programmatically remediated.

    • -Remediation of CEMLI’s

    • -Develop the extract scripts to support the migration to the new ERP

    • -Assist with mid-month transaction close date

    Oracle Cloud Customers Roundtable Session
This hour we are inviting Oracle Cloud customers to connect — in real life. For many organizations, making the move to Oracle Cloud has helped to accelerate release cycle speed, extend use of current technologies, and decrease release process management costs. However, it required training and change management because legacy technology knowledge runs deep within your organization. For many customers moving to Oracle Cloud, it also meant strategizing on when to use SaaS and when to leverage existing investment by shifting database, middleware, and applications onto Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This roundtable session will provide an opportunity for Oracle Cloud customers — and those considering making the move — to come together to share their lessons learned and make new connections within the Oracle user community. Topics will include integration with your overall process and tooling, security and compliance, migration of configuration and code across test and production environments, approaches to integrating Oracle and non-Oracle applications, and how to best optimize Oracle Tech Support when running in the cloud. Bring your questions, suggestions or be ready to share your recent wins for the benefit of the Oracle Cloud community.

However, when you want to go further, their limited drill down capabilities can restrict finance teams' ability to review details with ease and make quick data-driven decisions. With flexible drill down, you spend less time building and compiling reports leaving more time to focus on value created through analysis and problem solving.

Hate Global Transfers? Have All Your Tax Reporting Units (TRU) Point to One Payroll Statutory Unit (PSU)
The standard practice during implementation was to have a one to one

relationship between your Payroll Statutory Unit (PSU) and your Tax Reporting

Unit (TRU). This structure was required if statutory wage limits like State Unemployment

should start over when an employee transfers to a new legal entity. A

recent enhancement to Oracle Cloud Payroll will now allow you to create an

enterprise wide PSU that would include all the various TRUs. You now have

flexibility to state whether statutory limits should restart or automatically

transfer to the new TRU. Once implemented, Global Transfers become easier

to move an employee from one TRU to another. This presentation will outline the steps

to convert an existing PSU structure to the new enhanced and simplified structure.

    Presentation Objective 1

During this presentation, the presenter will showcase how supply and demand are managed via planning iterations between Oracle Supply Chain Planning (SCP) and Oracle Cloud EPM Planning. Oracle SCP demand plan generates monthly sales, labor workload/ capacity demand and inventory projections for finished goods, raw materials and WIP. These inputs from SCP are integrated into Cloud EPM Planning where full financials such as P&L, Balance Sheet & Cash Flow, are generated by managing direct labor planning for capacity, standard cost rollups for Margin, inventory projection for balance sheet, and overall cash flow impacts owing to planning activities.

    Presentation Objective 1

How to build what-if models for evaluating supply chain sensitivity changes such as sales price, component purchase prices & direct labor demand.

    Presentation Objective 2

Build rolling forecast solution that allows to continually track actuals and to manage supply vis-a-vis a changing demand allocation.

    Presentation Objective 3

Building COGS modeling in EPM using ERP/SCP details such as Bill of Materials (BOM), Projected Available Balances (PAB) and Sales Quantity & Price.

From Error to Patch: A Deep Dive into Oracle Database Patching
Have you ever heard from Oracle Support, "It will be fixed in 21c or 23c"? And wondered if you should upgrade now, and how you should upgrade when the release is not there yet? In this talk we will give rare insights into how Oracle Database Development works, how fixes are developed and patches delivered. We will explain why it takes more than a few minutes to complete a regression test suite, why you (usually) don't get one-off patches on Windows -and why you need a backport to have "this" issue fixed on 19.13.0. And why is it called a backport, anyway? We are fully aware that for this topic you may need a beverage of your choice relax -and that everybody has a story to tell. Our focus will be to shed some light on the black box that can sometimes be "Oracle Database Development"

Lead Within Your Space: Self Direction with a Purpose
Many have heard of "Extreme Ownership." One of those ideas is the idea of leading within one's sphere of influence. This is particularly true in the Enterprise Applications space. Enterprise Applications exist to support business operations. ERP teams may report to IT, Finance, or Operations. HCM teams may be included with ERP or report to HR or elsewhere depending on where Payroll is assigned. Each of these parent organizations has competing priorities. Often the needs of ERP/HCM teams do not rise to the top. The need to support business operations does not stop based on hierarchical priorities. Leading in one's own space whether a manager or team member can make all the difference between success and mediocracy.

    Presentation Objective 1

Create a mission and vision with personal meaning in alignment with an organization's hierarchy

    Presentation Objective 2

Reaching for the Cloud to Correct HCM Data
Finance has had a Cloud Fusion ERP system for the past 2 years and finally, Cloud HCM gets to start the implementation of their new system. The SI starts design sessions and everyone is so excited and the first time the SI log into the system, they have a moment. The ERP team did not use real employee data. They used random data, everyone had the same hire date (the ERP go-live date), there were fake date of birth, and the assignment data was totally wrong. How are we going to move forward? We all know that you just can't change the dates or the employee number. You can't just delete the employees and start over as there is data tied to those employees. Having a separate HCM pod is not the answer either. What do you do? Can the HCM team be successful? The answer is YES!

Keynote Address - Orchestrating True Business Synchrony

The marketplace is rapidly evolving. Sustainable success requires innovative thinking, seamless end to end business processes and aligned modern technology. Digital transformation — or technology-centered improvement — is helping businesses across industries modernize their infrastructures to meet new demands and emerging opportunities. Most of this progress is being made one stack at a time, but it’s the integration of these critical systems (i.e., business system synchrony) that unlocks agility, delivers aligned data and insights, and supports true agility and enterprise performance management. To ensure technology platforms do not become siloed, leaders must commit to digital transformation programs that optimize technology platforms, align data, and ensure integrated end to end business processes.

To avoid being unprepared, disrupted or even immobilized by inevitable market fluctuations, businesses must synchronize their core systems — enterprise resource planning (ERP), enterprise performance management (EPM), human capital management (HCM), and customer relationship (CRM). Aligning and synchronizing business systems positions organizations to make strategic decisions and successfully navigate market disruption.

Christopher Geers brings over 20 years’ experience consulting and leading digitization and financial transformation projects to the Ascend stage. Join him as he hosts an Oracle customer panel and hear first-hand from your peers how synchronized business systems are optimizing technology, data and processes.

CANCELLED - Go Hawks -From Spreadsheets to Enterprise Planning
Oracle EPM Planning Case Study -Atlanta Hawks moved from disconnected spreadsheets to a more controlled, robust system with strong planning and budgeting capabilities using Oracle Fusion Cloud EPM Planning With revenues of this size, the Hawks needed better insight and control over their financials. When it came to planning and budgeting, they wanted to reduce the budget process cycle time and costs. They lacked the ability to drill down to financial data and reports from spreadsheets, and they wanted to build a view of multiple charts of accounts and hierarchy structures for better reporting across the organization. Finally, the spreadsheets that the finance team relied on for planning and budgeting were cumbersome and difficult to use, and there was no integration with their ERP system.

Data Conversion is Not the Last Frontier During the Implementation
Oracle HCM implementation often starts with improving the experience for candidates, employees, and the organization overall. With such goals in mind, organizations opt-in for a better technology platform in lieu of the legacy platform and in this case Oracle HCM Cloud. We all know one of the important elements for any organization today is having key insights into data. Data has never been as important to figure out the critical metrics from retention, turnover, future workforce planning, and many more. So why are we talking about data conversion during the HCM implementation process? The simple reason is due to the fact data conversion gets overlooked and is set as a lower priority during HCM implementation. This very fact ends up becoming a big challenge later on for organizations.

    Presentation Objective 1

Data Security: Bring awareness to Data security early on during the implementation project.

    Presentation Objective 2

Data Prep and Readiness: Review the overall quality of data from all vantage points to ensure we are bringing quality data from the legacy systems.

    Presentation Objective 3

Streamlining the Recruitment, Hiring, Onboarding, and Provisioning of Union Employees in 24 hours or Less
Employers have historically relied on paper-heavy, non-standard recruiting methods to hire union jobs at work sites. Once the union member begins employment, it can take 10 days to complete onboarding, which includes provisioning required equipment, regulatory compliance, policy acknowledgments, and mandatory training. It adds to the project cost and the loss of productive hours, but it also requires more administrative resources. Employers hiring union labor must consider: -Need to support higher hiring volume -Union labor hiring has far fewer process steps than the customary multi-step process -The CBA governs the terms of employment and rate of pay The Hackett Group created a solution to enable a quick hire-to-provision process which saved money while allocating union resource

    Presentation Objective 1

Reduce hiring process to three steps: create a one-page requisition, contact the union to fill the position, begin onboarding within fifteen minutes

    Presentation Objective 2

Eliminate paper for the entire onboarding process, improve data privacy, heighten regulatory compliance, and ensure HR and payroll data accuracy

    Presentation Objective 3

Complete the entire onboarding process and full provisioning in 24 hours or less from anywhere on any internet-enabled device (mobile/computer)
